Cuttack: In move to address performance-related issues, the Cuttack district administration has directed the Block Development Officers (BDOs) to withhold salaries of several Assistant Development Extension Officers (ADEOs) for their failure to live up to expectations.

The Cuttack District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde has directed the BDOs to withhold the salaries of 12 accountants, who also serve as Data Entry Operators, for their failure to execute duties under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

According to reports, Cuttack has been underperforming in MGNREGA, currently ranking 29th in the state. The ADEOs were given the responsibility of providing work under MGNREGA to at least 100 individuals in each panchayat but failed miserably in fulfilling this task. As a result, many people left their homes for other places for work.

The District Collector expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and communicated directives through letters to BDOs, mandating immediate compliance with this order.
