**Cuttack:** To avoid the mounting accidents due to kite flying, the Cuttack district administration has banned flying kites on the roof tops on Friday.
Cuttack Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra said that open space will be allotted in different areas for flying kites. He has also banned the use and sale of glass-coated strings, plastic and china strings. A special squad will be engaged to check the selling of such strings at the shops.
According to the sources, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora informed that if anyone is found using or trading the plastic ‘manja’ string, necessary action will be taken against the persons.
Notably, a 5-year-old girl, Swetalina Behera lost her life in January this year after her throat got slit by the sharp kite string.
The mishap took place when the girl was with her father on a motorcycle at NH-5. She sustained deep injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she was declared dead.
