Cuttack: High-Handedness Against Woman Alleged During Mask Checking

Cuttack:   As a couple allegedly bore the brunt of police highhandedness during mask checking, tension prevailed when the irate locals resorted to road blockade and gheraoed the police personnel protesting their action.

The incident took place at Odashpur Square under Olatpur Police Station (PS) limits during the mask checking around 6 pm last evening.

As per reports, Manas Sethi of Tandikana Kalia village along with his wife and son were on their way to Odashpur hospital on a bike. The woman had covered her face with a cloth instead of a mask. Thus, the cops slapped fine on them and a heated argument ensued. The police personnel allegedly beat the couple and dragged them to the PCR van. Such a scene incensed the locals and they immediately gheroed the PCR van as well as resorted to road blockade in protest. The victim woman along with her son also staged a dharna on the road.

The chaotic situation lasted for over three hours following which Cuttack Sadar SDPO and Niali police rushed to the spot. In a bid to pacify the irate public, they assured action against the erring police personnel and ultimately the agitation was withdrawn.
