Bhubaneswar: A minor boy reportedly went missing in the Mahanadi River near the Sikharpur area in Cuttack on Tuesday evening.
The missing boy has been identified as Prabhudatta Senapati, a Class 9 student and resident of the Sikharpur locality.
According to sources, the boy had gone to the river along with a friend for a bath. While approaching the riverbank, he allegedly slipped and fell into the river. His friend informed the family later in the evening after Prabhudatta failed to return home.
Upon learning about the incident around 9 pm, family members rushed to the spot and reported the matter to the local police. The police subsequently alerted the fire department, which dispatched personnel to initiate a search operation.
Despite extensive efforts, the boy could not be located on Tuesday night and the operation had to be temporarily called off due to poor visibility. The search operation resumed early Wednesday morning and was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
