Bhubaneswar: Cuttack police on Tuesday arrested Shaikh Israel, the driver and key associate of the fraudster Kaif Khan. Six cases have been registered against fake tantric at Marsalbagh and Sadar police stations in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
While the fake tantric Kaif is now on four-day remand, police station officer Sudshanshu Shekhar Jena informed that there may be more arrests soon in connection with the cases.
It is worth mentioning here that the Commissionerate police arrested Kaif for allegedly duping a woman of Ranihat in Cuttack city of around Rs 62 lakh by identifying himself as a tantrik. The accused was identified as Kaifi Khan.
Khan had reportedly told the woman that he was a tantrik and had taken Rs 62 lakh from her during a period of one year on the pretext of ‘removing evil spirits’ from her house. He had also promised her of unearthing ‘hidden treasure’ from the house.
Later, acting on a complaint lodged by the victim, the Mangalabag police carried out an investigation and arrested the accused.
Later, several others came up with complaints against the fake tantrik.
The accused had convinced the victims that he possessed some supernatural powers and to do some rituals to unearth the hidden treasure.
