“A minor girl was rescued from the Madhupatna police limits. Following her counseling, she filed an FIR on November 23. Based on her statement and the counseling report, we registered a case at the Madhupatna police station. During the investigation, we initially arrested four individuals and, yesterday, apprehended two more, who have been formally arrested and forwarded to the court. These individuals acted as pimps or touts, forcing the victim into prostitution,” stated Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena.
The police suspect the involvement of a larger organized trafficking racket. According to the DCP, the operation includes Bangladeshi nationals and individuals from West Bengal. Efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the racket.
“We have arrested six individuals so far, and others connected to the case from West Bengal and elsewhere will also be apprehended. For the victim’s repatriation, we have informed the Government of India, which has communicated the matter to the High Commission. The repatriation process is in progress. Meanwhile, we are verifying the criminal backgrounds of the accused and will share the details with the court,” added DCP Meena.
The minor victim remains under police protection in Cuttack, and arrangements are being made to ensure her safe return to Bangladesh.
