Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown on errant vehicle operators, the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO) has slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh on a passenger bus, Shivshankar, for operating without the requisite documents.
According to reports, the fine was levied on Wednesday after the RTO officials found the bus lacking essential documents. The bus was found to be plying on the roads without a valid fitness certificate, insurance, permit, and pollution certificate, prompting the RTO to take stringent action.
The bus owner has been directed to pay the fine and release the vehicle.
The Cuttack RTO’s action, taken under the Motor Vehicles Act, underscores the seriousness of the document lapses and the potential risks to passenger safety.
The RTO’s action comes as a stern warning to vehicle owners to comply with regulations and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
