Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Odisha government Nikunja Bihari Dhal has written a letter to his counterpart in the Government of Bihar, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit to extend cooperation in the investigation of spurious drugs seized in Cuttack.
Dhal has pointed out in the letter written on Tuesday that two drugs –Telma 40 tablet bearing Batch No. 1811055 and Telma AM tablet bearing Batch No. 18220083 supplied to Odisha by a firm named M/s Balaji Drug Point, Jail Press Road, Gaya, Bihar have been found to be spurious based on the report received from the original manufacturer.
He has further pointed out that in this connection, the Drugs Controller, Bihar has been requested vide letter No. 5371 dated 07.09.2022 as well as letter No 5391 dated 09.07.2022 to provide the details of supply made to the State of Odisha, but, no feedback has been received from the Directorate of Drugs Control, Bihar till date.
In this context Drugs Controller, Bihar may be instructed to submit the reply to the above letter to expedite the investigation, he added.
Dhal appraised his Bihar counterpart that the matter is related to spurious drugs and must be attended to with utmost urgency in the larger public interest as the mentioned drugs are used to treat blood pressure.
Hence, a team consisting of two officers accompanied by Police officers will be deputed to Bihar to carry forward further investigation in this matter, he added.
He has informed that in this context, a team consisting of Tushar Ranjan Panigrahi, Asst. Drugs Controller and Dharmadev Puhan, Asst. Drugs Controller will proceed to Bihar to obtain details of the firm from Drugs Control Admn, Bihar, which is involved in the supply of spurious drugs.
“Hence, it is requested that necessary instructions may kindly be issued to the concerned authorities to extend their cooperation to the team deputed for the purpose so as to take things to a logical conclusion,” Dhal stated.
