Cuttack: The Mahanadi continued to further swell at Naraj thus inundating 42 Mauja area of Banki in Cuttack district, today. Also marooned were residents of Kathajodi Basti and Muda Basti of Cuttack city.
The slum dwellers complained of waterlogging in their area and the fact that they had to move to safer locations. However, Cuttack Collector and District Magistrate Bhabani Shankar Chayani assured that the situation is in control and that necessary measures are being taken. He added that senior officers have been deployed for relief management.
46 of Hirakud dam’s 64 sluice gates remained open on Sunday as well to release the excess floodwater. The water level of the reservoir stands at 627.85 feet as against its full capacity of 630 feet. Officials informed that Mundali received 9,79,715 cusecs of water. While the danger level is marked at 9725 metres, at upper catchment it was 9490 metres and at lower catchment was at 9260 metres.
Mundali is expected to receive 10 lakh cusecs of water by Monday.
Meanwhile at Naraj, 4,84,472 cusecs of water. While the danger level is marked at 2642 metres, at upper catchment it was 2600 metres and at lower catchment it was at 2420 metres.
