Cuttack: The SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack has been made the nodal centre for the management of monkeypox cases in Odisha. A team comprising of doctors from various departments such as medicine, Skin & VD, microbiology, SPM, and pediatric has been formed by the hospital administration.
Head of Medicine Department, Dr. Jayant Panda, informed that the premier health institute is prepared to deal with the viral disease. Two beds have been isolated in the isolation ward and four beds have been arranged in the ICU. A Nodal Officer has been appointed to look over the management of the viral disease.
It is pertinent to mention that the State Health Department had issued a directive to all seven Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals to dedicate beds for Monkeypox patients.
In a letter to the Government MCHs, the Directorate of Health stated, “Make two isolation beds functional in each MCH for management of Monkeypox (MPX) cases if detected and admitted.” A faculty member of the MCH should be declared as Nodal Officer for the institution to coordinate this activity.
