Cyber Criminals Have Looted Rs 36 Crore In Last Six Months In Capital City

Bhubaneswar: Cybercrime is rising as 2,394 incidents have been reported out of which the cyber police have registered 110 cases in the last six months from January to June in Bhubaneswar.

The cybercriminals have looted Rs 36 crore in this period, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said.

During the course of investigation, Rs 9.50 crore has been frozen in various bank accounts. Similarly, victims of online fraud have got back a total of Rs 46 lakh, Panda added.

Most of the cyber fraud cases are related to UPI, social media, parcel and SIM and KYC fraud.

After investigating the cyber-crimes, the Commissionerate Police has so far arrested 21 cyber criminals and forwarded them to court. Out of the 21 criminals, five are inter-state criminals, the Commissioner added.
