“We have arrested one Nursingha Biswal hailing from Sadar police limits of Puri district for duping the complainant of Rs 3.18 lakh by impersonating as Deepa Pradhan, a potential bride,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh speaking to reporters here today.
Singh said that Biswal had opened a fake account in a matrimonial site in the name of his wife Deepa and had reportedly cheated Rs 3.18 lakh from the complainant who was in search of a match by showing interest in him.
“We have seized Rs 1.61 lakh cash, five ATM cards, two SIM cards and three mobile phones from the accused,” Singh added.
The DCP said that the complainant had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police Station on November 15th last year.
He said cyber fraudsters by creating fake IDs in matrimonial sites are duping persons searching for a match to marry.
Most of the cyber fraudsters open account in the name of females in matrimonial sites and then show interest in men seeking matches, he added.
