Phulbani: The Principal of Phulbani Government Junior College has taken swift action against a cyber fraud targeting students. A complaint was filed at the Kandhamal cyber police station after it was discovered that an individual had been calling students and their parents, demanding Rs 5,000 in exchange for inflated exam marks.
According to the complaint, the fraudster, using mobile number 6370871728, has been making threatening calls to students and their guardians. The victim students, fearing for their future, have reported the incidents to principal Jyoti Prakash Rath.
Rath, meanwhile, sought immediate action against the culprit. The college authorities have urged students and parents to remain vigilant and not respond to such suspicious calls.
It is learnt that students of Raikia Jeevan Jyoti College also received similar calls from the same phone number. Consequently, the college principal filed a complaint at Raikia Police Station yesterday.
The principal of Phulbani Government Junior College said, “Yesterday, I received disturbing calls from several parents who complained about a culprit contacting them with a misleading proposal. This individual has been targeting science students, promising to increase their practical marks in the board examinations. What’s even more alarming is that this scammer has been contacting parents from other colleges as well, using the same phone number.”
He continued: “As the principal of this institution, I have immediately filed a complaint at the local cyber police station to ensure swift action is taken against this culprit. I urge all parents and students to remain vigilant and report any similar incidents to the authorities.”
