Bhubaneswar: The severe cyclonic storm Asani lies at a distance of 210 kms from Kakinada, 530 kms southwest of Gopalpur and 630 kms southwest of Puri. It is likely that Asani would touch the shoreline somewhere near Kakinada, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena said.
Addressing the regular briefing today evening, Jena said that the system will hit the coast in between Kakinada and Vishakhapatnam and then recurve towards the sea in north northeast direction. During this period on May 12 and 13, the cyclone will pass close to Odisha, the SRC said.
The cyclone will trigger rains in Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. A spell of intense rain was witnessed in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening. Similar activity is very likely to continue over the next two days, because of the outer rain bands of Asani.
