Bhubaneswar: As ‘Asani’ moved closer to the Odisha coast on Monday, the outer rainbands triggered shower and squalls in some parts of the State. While it rained at several places in Bhubaneswar in separate spells, rainfall was also reported from Bhadrak, Cuttack and few other places in coastal districts. However, Puri town experienced a dry Monday afternoon.
Asani will continue to be a severe cyclonic storm till May 10, and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm over the next 36 hours, Director, IMD (Bhubaneswar), HR Biswas said. It remains around 110 kms from Paradip on Odisha coast and is moving at a speed of 25 to 30 kmh. Prior to weakening, Asani is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, he added.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri, forecasting heavy rains on May 10. Similarly, on May 11, heavy rains are likely to occur on Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack. The Met Department has issued yellow warning for Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore for heavy rains on May 12.
The Maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to fall by 2-3 degrees during next 3 days over the districts of Coastal Odisha and no large change is expected over the other districts of Interior Odisha. During the next 24 hours, light to moderate Rain/ Thundershower is very likely to occur at few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha, the IMD stated.
Gale wind is likely to prevail with speed reaching 85-95 gusting 105 kmph over Westcentral and adjoining South Bay of Bengal around system centre on May 10. Gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal on May 11.
It would gradually decrease becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over Northwestand adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 12th May. Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coast on 11th and 12th May, 2022.
“Sea condition is likely to become high to very high over central parts of Bay of Bengal on 9th May, become high to very high over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on 10th May, become high to very high over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 11th May and become high to very high over Northwest Bay of Bengal on 12th May,” the IMD stated.
