Bhubaneswar: Even as the inhabitants of coastal Odisha panicked over the impending cyclonic storm Dana, there is some good news too. Pregnant women evacuated prior to the landfall of Cyclone Dana gave birth to 1,600 babies at different hospitals on Thursday evening.
According to the information provided Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during a press briefing in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, 4,421 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals in the areas affected by the cyclone. Of the evacuated pregnant women, 1600 deliveries were done by Thursday evening.
In all 8,322 cyclone shelters were opened to accommodate the evacuated persons in the vulnerable areas. Till 10.00 pm on Thursday, 6,008 shelters were made functional.
