Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm ‘DANA’ over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past six hours and lay centred over the eastcentral & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 460 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 490 km south-southeast of Dhamara and 540 km south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal.
It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by early morning of October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during night of October 24 to morning of October 25 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.
The IMD has issued a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall on October 25 and 26.
On October 25, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur in parts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.
Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak on October 26.
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough from October 23 night till 25 morning and improve gradually thereafter.
Rough to very rough sea condition is prevailing and likely to become high to very high on October 24 and 25 along and off Odisha coast.
Great Danger Signal No-10 (GD-10) has been hoisted at Puri, Dhamara/ Chandbali , Paradip while Great Danger Signal-08(GD-08) has been issued at Gopalpur port of Odisha.
Storm surge is likely to be 1.0 to 2.0 m height above astronomical tide and very likely to inundate low-lying areas of Kendrapara, Bhadrak & Balasore districts of Odisha during the time of landfall.
Storm surge of 0.5 to 1.0 m height above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low-lying areas of Jagatsingpur district during the time of landfall.
