**Bhadrak/ Balasore/ Malkangiri:** While Cyclone Daye has weakened and it has concentrated now over Chhattisgarh, the cyclonic storm’s effect continues to linger in several districts of the State. Many major rivers continue to flow above the danger level, thus inundating low-lying areas and throwing normal life out of gear. Here are the most affected places:
In Bhadrak, Baitarani River crossed danger mark at Akhuapada. The current water level is at 18.02 metre as compared to the danger mark of 17.83 metre. As per reports, the upper catchment areas of the river including Champua, Anandpur and Thakuramunda received over 50 mm rainfall in past 24 hours.
In Balasore, two gates each of Sunei Dam & Kala Dam have been opened as river levels flowing through the district crossed danger mark. Budhabalanga river is currently flowing at 8.18 metres near Baruni bridge against danger mark of 8.13 metres and this has affected more than 15 panchayats nearby. In Jalaka river, the water is flowing at 6.51 metres near Mathani against danger mark of 5.80 metres as a result of which 6 panchayats of Basta block have been affected along with inundation of several acres of farmland.
Meanwhile in Malkangiri, the connectivity between several key places has been lost. Five feet water continues to flow over MV-11 bridge disrupting connectivity between Malkangiri and Balimela.
Similarly, road connectivity to Kalimela has also been lost due to 3-feet water over Poteru bridge. Meanwhile, the storm water has gushed into three villages marooning several villagers. In addition to that, connectivity to Sukma in Chhattisgarh has also been disrupted due to the incessant rains.
While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already announced 7-day relief for the tribal-dominated district, over 2000 people have been shifted to safer place with proper cooked food and drinking water being made available to them.
