**Malkangiri:** Despite the receding of incessant rains and scaly winds, tribal-dominated district of Malkangiri continues to feel the pinch of the storm as hundreds have lost their shelters and are now left without a roof over their heads.
Reportedly, more than 40 villages of the Korukonda and Balimela blocks have been completely inundated in water thus ravaging all the mud thatched houses in the area. Similarly in Poteru area, villagers can only see damaged houses till the horizon. The wreck also includes several acres of farmlands and missing livestock.
As the cyclone was unexpected, many villagers had evacuated the houses leaving their personal belongings behind. All those valuables have been drained away with the receding water, thus taking away several memories from the people.
While several important documents have been washed away, roads connecting Malkangiri to key places have also broken down affecting communication.
On the other hand, the seven-day relief of Rs 60/day for adults and Rs 45/day for children announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been helping the locals to slowly crawl back to normalcy.
Over 2000 people have been shifted to safer place with proper cooked food and drinking water being made available to them, however the distressed locals have opined painfully that the recovery process is at a snail’s pace.
