Cyclone FANI Aftermath: 56 Per Cent Mobile Towers Operational In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: With efforts to restore telecommunication after the devastation caused by cyclone FANI, around 56 per cent of mobile towers have become operational in Bhubaneswar till Sunday. The highest 73 per cent mobile towers are operational in Cuttack town and lowest 18 per cent in Puri town.

Among the districts, 57 per cent mobile towers have become operational in Khurda, 34 per cent in Puri and 70 per cent in Cuttack. With this there has been an improvement in telecommunication services, said Secretary of Information of Public Relations department Sanjay Singh on Sunday.

Excluding the master switching centre of Vodafone at Naharkanta, centres of all other service providers have become operational, he added.

In Puri, while three Cell on Wheel (COW) of Airtel have been deployed at Grand Road, Collectorate and Swargadwar respectively, a Cell on Wheel (COW) of Jio, which is providing 4G service, has also been stationed at the Collectorate, informed Singh.

He further said that the consumers can avail the network of any service provider through Intra Circle Roaming. Meanwhile, 50 per cent internet services have been restored in Bhubaneswar and Puri and after repair of mobile towers the network connectivity has improved.

A review meeting of improving telecommunication and internet services is being held under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner daily to restore the services at the earliest, said Singh.
