Puri: Despite extensive damage in Puri, where Cyclone FANI made its landfall, all trains resumed services from the heritage town on Monday.
The East Coast Railway authorities informed that it has kept its promise and all Express, Passenger and MEMU trains will run from Puri today.
As per the regular schedule, 18 express trains were to originate from Puri on Sunday. Out of them, 15 left from Puri station, two from Bhubaneswar station and one from Khurda Road station on Sunday. By today morning, these were normalised, as well.
Puri-Howrah Shatabdi Express and Paradeep & Barbil Intercity Express, which were earlier cancelled due to the cyclone, also resumed operation, informed East Coast Railway (ECoR).
It is notable to mention here that on Thursday, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had appreciated the Disaster Management Planning and action taken by Railway authorities like pre-cyclone steps, evacuation of Tourists by Special Trains and the speedy post cyclone restoration process.
He had also asked the authorities to keep in mind the upcoming Rath Yatra at Puri and take immediate steps on war footing to provide Platform Shelters at Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khurda Road Railway Stations.
