Cyclone FANI Completely Damages Power Infra, Worse Than Phailin, May Take Weeks To Restore: Energy Secy

Bhubaneswar: The extremely severe cyclonic storm FANI has caused an extensive damage to power distribution infrastructure in almost four districts with 100 per cent damage in Puri and Khurda, informed Energy Secretary Hemant Sharma on Friday.

While speaking exclusively to OMMCOM NEWS, Sharma informed that power distribution infrastructure has been extensively damaged particularly in parts of Ganjam district, Khallikote, entire Puri district, entire State Capital region, parts of Cuttack, parts of Kendrapara, parts of Jajpur and Balasore.

The restoration work in the above districts will take some time depending on the number of gangs deployed for the purpose. While the power supply transmission system will be restored from tonight, the distribution network will be restored in parts from tomorrow, he added.

All the transmission GRIDs of Bhubaneswar and Puri have been tripped and it need to be reconstructed starting from scratch. One lakh poles needed to be reinstalled in Puri and Khurda alone which is thrice of Phailin, said Sharma.

He has instructed the Executive Engineers to start patrolling as soon as the wind speed reduces. Other than the earlier deployed 500 gangs, additional workforce of implementing agencies, ODSSP, DDUGJY, IPDS and SCRIPS Projects have also been mobilized for restoration work in Bhubaneswar.
