Bhubaneswar: In view of the extremely severe Cyclone FANI fast approaching Odisha, the authorities of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have pulled up their sleeves to counter the menace.
The BMC has identified 110 cyclone shelters in its 67 wards, which has been classified into 13 sectors, and has planned to evacuate around 55,000 people. One nodal officer from the BDA of BMC has been deployed in each shelter along with an assisting officer from education department. Besides, a team of health department will also be deployed at each shelter for emergency purpose. Around 10 shelters will be under the supervision of a sector officer.
Public representatives and NGOs have been involved by the BMC to spread awareness among people about the cyclone shelters and motivate the vulnerable people to go to the shelters where free kitchen service will start from today evening. Veterinary department is also asking people not to tie their domestic cattle and also providing required medical support and food.
Around 50 pump sets, with operators and sufficient fuel, have already been installed in 40 locations with history of water-logging and measures to clear drain blockages have also been adopted. Equipments for road clearance including cutters and JCB will also be made available in the 13 sectors.
