Cyclone FANI: Over 40,000 Relief Packets Ready To Be Air Dropped In Affected Districts
Bhubaneswar: As the extremely severe cyclonic storm FANI has battered parts of coastal Odisha leaving thousands of people searching for food and other essential commodities, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) has been entrusted with packaging of relief packets for air dropping in affected districts.
Additional Chief Executive Officer of ORMAS, Swayamprava Mohanty, today informed that as per the direction of Special Relief Commissioner the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department has presently asked ORMAS for packaging of one lakh relief packets, out of which over 40,000 packets are ready for air dropping.
ORMAS has started packaging of the relief materials at Kalinga Stadium from May 2 in collaboration with Civil Supplies Department, which is providing the essential relief materials such as flattened rice, jaggery, salt, ORS packets, candles and matchsticks.
After completion of the packaging by ORMAS, the transportation and air dropping responsibility has been given to Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).
A dedicated and experienced team of ORMAS along with student volunteers from (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana) DDU-GKY have been deployed for the packaging of the relief materials. They are working in collaboration with representatives of Civil Supplies department and IDCO.
