Cyclone Gulab Weakens, Heavy Rainfall To Persist In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is to occur in several districts of Odisha on Monday till early Tuesday under the influence of the weather system associated with the Cyclonic Storm ‘Gulab’, informed the India Meteorological Department on Monday.

The Cyclonic Storm ‘Gulab’ over north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha moved westwards and weakened into a Deep Depression and lay centered at 0230 hrs IST of 27th September 2021 over north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha about 220 km west-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), 130 km east-southeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh), and 120 km west of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken further into a Depression today.

Under the influence of the above system, on Monday morning, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places are very likely to occur over the districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely to occur over the districts of Ganjam, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal, and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khorda, Nuapada, and Bolangir during the same period.

Further, heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely to occur over the districts of Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri, and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Rayagada and Kalahandi, today till Tuesday morning.
