Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Sunday (May 8). The storm is expected to move northwestwards and reach westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast on May 10, as per IMD’s latest update.
Taking the impending situation into account Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena placed all Collectors on alert. Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at many places of coastal districts and heavy rainfall is expected in Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.
Similarly, gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph is likely to prevail over ceentral parts of Bay of Bengal on May 9 and10. Sea condition is likely to become high over central parts of the Bay of Bengal and northwest and eastcentral parts on May 10.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea on May 9 and 10. Whoeever are out at sea are advised to return to the coast by May 10, the SRC stated.
“The system may be closely monitored. Flood situation may occur and water logging situation may arise in low lying aras. Keep the district administration alert and in readiness to respond to any eventuality,” the advisory read.
