Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea has moved west-northwestwards and lay over southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.
The low-pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm ‘Michaung’ over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around December 2.
According to the weather office, some coastal districts of Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall today.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted seven districts – Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Ganjam – to take necessary precautions in view of the IMD weather forecast. While farmers have been advised to protect their paddy crops, fishermen have been directed not to venture out into the sea after December 1. Guidelines have also been issued by UAT and the Directorate of Agriculture regarding crop protection.
