Cyclone ‘Nisarga’ To Make Landfall On Maha Coast Between 1pm-4pm Today: IMD

Bhubaneswar:     As per latest observations, Cyclone ‘Nisarga’ is presently located around 95 kms south-east of Alibagh.

Talking to Ommcom News, IMD Chief Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra said: “As per our prediction, the system has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm today morning. It has got a windspeed of 100-120 kmph. We are expecting that it will cross the Maharashtra coast south to Alibagh with the same windspeed between 1 pm to 4 pm this afternoon around 80 kms away from Mumbai.”

Maximum wind speed will be over Raigarh, Thane and Mumbai districts. In addition to that, there will be a wind speed of 70-85 kmph over Ratnagiri and Palgarh districts of Maharashtra whereas the will be 60-65 kmph wind speed in Valsad and Matsari district.

The IMD chief elaborated: “Already heavy rainfall has started and we are expecting extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Konkan districts, especially the low lying areas in Raigarh, Thane and Mumbai districts. There will be a multiple hazard system because of heavy rainfall, wind and storm in the afternoon. And it will directly affect the suburbs of Mumbai city.”
