Bhubaneswar: As the Severe Cyclonic Storm Remal (pronounced ‘Re-Mal’) approaches the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for rain and thunderstorms in six Odisha districts till 6.00 pm on Sunday
As per the IMD warning, moderate thunderstorms accompanied by squally wind with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, lightning, and light to moderate rain are likely to occur in some places in Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal in the next three hours.
The weather office has also warned of minor damages to unsecured structures, banana plantations, and standing crops. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places accordingly.
Flights & Trains Cancelled
Meanwhile, 394 flights, both arrival and departure, in both international and domestic sectors have been suspended along the eastern coastline in India, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson said
The Eastern Railway has cancelled many trains that link Kolkata with South 24-Parganas and North 24-Parganas. Trains on the Sealdah South section and the Barasat-Hasnabad link on the Sealdah North section have also been suspended from 11.00 pm on Sunday to 6.00 am on Monday. Likewise, in the Howrah division, more than a dozen trains have been cancelled.
