Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal between May 23 and 28, which may intensify into a cyclonic storm named ‘Shakti’.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has already issued a warning in this regard, while the India Meteorological Department has not officially declared the formation of any cyclone so far.
As per the prediction made by the Bangladesh weather department, the cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall between May 24 and 26, affecting the coasts of Odisha and Bangladesh, particularly the Chittagong coast. Under its impact, the coastal districts of Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Khordha may experience moderate rainfall and winds of up to 60 km/h between May 24 and 27.
However, the cyclone’s exact path and intensity remain uncertain at this stage.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also reported that the southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the southern parts of the country. Meanwhile, the weather department has warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds in the affected areas.
