Bhubaneswar: Eight fishermen from Andhra Pradesh who were stranded in the sea near Gopalpur port in Ganjam district were rescued by a joint team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Indian Coast Guard late last night.

Odisha DGP RP Sharma informed that, nearly 35 fishing trawlers had left from Andhra Pradesh around four days back. They were stranded in the turbulent sea off Gopalpur shore, under the affect of cyclone 'Titli'.

They made a SOS call after which Ganjam Collector, Southern Range DIG, SPs of Ganjam and Berhampur jumped into action and launched a rescue operation with help of Indian Coast Guard and ODRAF. A trawler has capsized but all the persons on board were rescued.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi also called the control room in Berhampur last night and took stock of the situation. Besides, DIG of Indian Coast Guard has also been contacted and a team sent for rescue of rest fishermen, who are reportedly safe.
