Cyclone YAAS: Sea Water Enters Villages In Soro And Bahanaga Blocks

Balasore: Sea water gushed into the villages through the breaches in villages of Soro and Bahanaga Blocks of the district as the landfall process cyclone YAAS is underway.

According to reports, the intensity of wind and rains have increased over the past half an hour, and trees have uprooted in many parts of the coastal district. Waterlogging has been reported from several villages due to the ingress of seawater.

The landfall may take up to four hours to complete as the size of the storm is relatively large. Wind speeds ranging between 110 and 130 kmph are being reported from different parts of Balasore.

A few thatched houses have also been swept away due to heavy rains and strong winds. The Met department has predicted very heavy rain (more than 200 mm) over the district.

Water ingress has been reported from Chaumukha village in Baliapal block. The people of this area have been cut off due to water logging, said reports. Total 2.72 lakh persons have been evacuated from vulnerable areas of Balasore and Bhadrak districts.
