Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its surrounding regions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system which developed at 8:30 am on Monday is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above the mean sea level.
The IMD further stated that the system is expected to move northwestward over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8. Subsequently, it is likely to shift nearly northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
According to the midday weather bulletin from the IMD, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely in the afternoon or evening hours at one or two places in the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangpur. Dry weather is expected to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha from April 8 to April 14.
Additionally, the IMD has issued a Yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. These conditions are expected to affect one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar between April 9 and April 11.
As for the temperature forecast, the IMD predicts no significant change in maximum temperatures (day temperatures) over the next 24 hours.
However, temperatures are likely to decrease by 2-3°C across Odisha after that. Isolated pockets in the districts of Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Titlagarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, and Rourkela are expected to experience maximum temperatures of 40°C or higher.
In view of the changing weather conditions, the IMD has urged the public to stay updated with weather reports and take the necessary precautions to stay safe.
