Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the Malacca Strait, near Malaysia, and is likely to intensify into a depression by November 24, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is expected to further intensify, potentially becoming a cyclonic storm.
The IMD has not issued any warning for heavy rainfall in Odisha for November 26-27.
Experts are monitoring the potential low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, assessing its possible development into a cyclone and predicting its trajectory and intensity using various models. However, no clear forecast is available yet.
Following predictions from various weather models about potential cyclone and rainfall towards the end of the month, farmers in the state are anxious. With mature paddy crops standing in the fields, they fear that any cyclone could cause significant damage.
Meanwhile, another cyclonic circulation is active near Sri Lanka’s coast, which may intensify further.
