Bhubaneswar: Acting on a tip-off, Odisha Vigilance sleuths intercepted the car of Jitendra Kumar Behera, Traffic Inspector, Talcher in Angul district on Thursday night at Trinath Bazar, Balianta in Bhubaneswar while he was travelling from Talcher to Astarang and found suspected ill-gotten cash worth Rs 11,15,470 in his possession. As Behera could not offer a satisfactory account for the cash recovered from him, it was seized.
Following the interception, the Vigilance sleuths launched a house search at Behera’s rented house in Talcher and his house at Astarang from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle. During searches so far, cash to the tune of Rs 3,08,750 and 336 gm of gold were seized from the rented house at Talcher and more cash worth Rs 10 lakh was seized from his house at Astarang.
With this total cash seizure comes to approx Rs 24.24 lakh. Further, searches are in progress at the house of Krushna Chandra Behera, brother of Jitendra Kumar Behera, located at Paradip.
The SO (Suspect Officer) Jitendra Behera is being examined to ascertain the source of the funds.
