Bhubaneswar: The Danda Nacha festival celebrations at Badabazar area in Berhampur were marred after a dispute during the celebrations led to the murder of a committee member.
The deceased has been identified as Jagadish Panigrahi, a member of the Belagaon Danda Nacha Committee.
According to reports, Jagadish was stabbed to death by Trinath Panigrahi, the head of the Belagaon Danda Nacha committee, and his son Pradeep Panigrahi. The altercation occurred during the festival’s ritual procession, and the conflict quickly escalated. In a fit of rage, Trinath and Pradeep reportedly stabbed Jagadish repeatedly.
Though Jagadish was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police have meanwhile arrested Trinath and Pradeep and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
