Berhampur: ‘Danda Pana’ is a summer drink relished in different places across the State, however, its contamination can lead to serious health issues. A case in point is spread of Diarrhoea in Bakharakata village of Dharakote block where at least two persons have lost their lives due to the disease.
While these deaths are yet to be confirmed as deaths due to Diarrhoea, locals informed that the two persons in question were affected by the infection. A team of doctors have been rushed to Bakharakata village for treating the afflicted people. Contamination of the Pana cannot be ruled out, the locals said.
A temporary medical centre has been set up in the village to treat the patients on an emergency basis while the serious ones are being referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. The doctors have confirmed that the spread of the disease was due to the consumption of ‘Pana’ during Danda Yatra.
