Bhubaneswar: The bye-election to the Dhamnagar assembly constituency of Odisha will be held on November 3, read a notification issued by the Election Commission of India on Monday.
The Election Commission of India has stated that the scheduled date for the issue of gazette notification is October 7. The last date for nominations is October 14 and the date of scrutiny is October 15.
Candidates can withdraw their candidature till October 17 and the poll will be held on November 3. The date of counting is November 6 and the date before which the election shall be completed is November 8.
The Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-election. The Model Code of Conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the district in which the whole or any part of the constituency going for election is included.
The Secretariat of the Odisha Legislative Assembly had on September 21 issued a notification regarding the vacant Assembly seat of Dhamnagar constituency in Odisha and informed the Election Commission in order to enable it to take steps for holding of bye-election to fill up the vacancy.
The vacancy was caused in Dhamnagar constituency following the death of its MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi. He breathed his last on September 19 at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
