Jharsuguda: Two women have been arrested for allegedly trying to kill their father by setting their house on fire at Lecture Colony in Jharsuguda on Thursday night.
Reportedly, the victim Kailash Chandra Meher is at loggerheads with his two daughters Panchami Meher and Jasodha Meher for the last few months. They had been asking him to transfer all the property in their names.
As Kailash has to marry off one more daughter, he denied to transfer any property in their name.
On Thursday, his elder daughter asked Rs 2000 from him but as he refused to give the money she left the house. However, she returned at around 7 AM with her sister and two youths and beat him with a stick.
Kailash somehow managed to enter his house following which his son-in-law arrived at the spot. When Kailash did not come out of the house after repeated threats, they tried to break open the door.
Unable to break the door, they managed to climb the asbestos roof and break it. Subsequently, they poured kerosene into the house and set it on fire.
All the items in the house including a motorcycle were gutted in the fire while Kailash managed to escape through the roof and inform the police and fire brigade.
Based on Kailash’s complaint, police arrested four persons, including his daughters and one son-in-law.
