**Sundergarh:** A 12-hour bandh protesting against the increased toll tax collection on the Biju Expressway made the normal life stand still here on Saturday. Commercial establishments including shops remained closed and the vehicular traffic has been adversely affected due to this protest.
The Sundergarh Nagarik Committee called for a 12-hour-bandh call that was backed by the District Bar Association against the increased collection after the renaming it as Biju Expressway.
The Sundergarh Nagarik Sangh president Ashok Kumar Dash said,”The people of the district have been paying the toll on the previously renovated road (SH-10) by L&T) for the last 17 years and the government has renamed it, expanded it and increased the toll. How far is it justified?”
Demanding extra toll tax after renaming it has sparked massive outrage among the local people and they have resorted to bandh protesting it.
The Expressway was previously inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen
Patnaik on March 12 this year. It has been constructed under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) with the State Government bearing 36 percent project cost while the remaining was paid by L&T.
