Bhubaneswar: A day after killing an eight-year-old boy, the leopard roaming in the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Nuapada district attacked and killed a cow in Katingpani village triggering panic among the local villagers.
According to reports, the leopard attacked the cow sheltered in one of Arjuna Dharua’s cowsheds in Katingpani village on Monday late at night. After killing the cow, the leopard tried to drag the prey from the place but failed. However, the cow succumbed to the injuries sustained in the leopard attack.
It is worth mentioning here that the leopard attacked and killed a minor boy, Dambarudhar Dharua, while he was playing near his house on Monday morning. Later, Forest Department staff recovered the body of the boy at the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary.
According to Nuapada Wildlife Ranger Pal Singh Mathur, the state government will pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the deceased boy’s kin. In addition, the department has sent a proposal to the state government to set up fencing and solar lighting in the area to prevent animals from invading the villagers in the region.
