Bhubaneswar: Day temperature will soar at several places in Odisha and may touch 42°C soon. It is likely that several places in the state will sizzle during the Pana Sankranti as the day temperature is likely to rise by 3°C to 5°C during the next week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast that interior districts in Odisha, including Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh and Sambalpur, are expected to witness a rise in temperature by up to 1.5°C, while other places will experience a 1°C rise in day temperature in the next few days.
Day temperature is set to rise as the dry and warm wind from the northwest direction is likely to blow to Odisha from April 10. Nor’westers are also likely to hit some places till April 8, especially Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Bolangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore may experience Nor’westers during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, gusty winds are likely to increase in some places in Odisha from Thursday. A tropical cyclone formed in and around Bangladesh extended up to 0.9 km above sea level due to which the amount and extent of rain will increase again from today.
Wind speed is likely to be 30 kmph to 40 kmph per hour and will be accompanied by lightning and rain. The IMD has issued a yellow alert has been issued to 16 districts of north, coastal and south Odisha. A warning has been issued to 10 districts for rain and lightning and 13 districts for lightning and wind for Thursday.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightening at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during the next 48 hours.
