Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha experienced heat wave-like conditions for the second successive day on Tuesday. The temperature at six places in the state was above 36°C at 11.30 am today, the capital city of Bhubaneswar was the hottest place recording 39°C. At 8.30 am, Bhubaneswar recorded 32°C, 1°C higher than Monday.
The roads wore a deserted look as pedestrians and vehicles were few. Most markets and shops also closed early owing to the intense heat and lack of customers. Students returning from school faced immense problems owing to the sweltering heat.
According to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, the increase in day temperature is due to the influence of dry-hot air from the northwest with reduced seasonal influence over the state. During the next 2 to 3 days, there is a possibility of an increase of 3°C to 4°C in the day temperature in some places in the state.
The present heat wave condition will prevail in the state for another five days and people have been advised to take proper precautions, especially when going out.
