Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Monday forecast a gradual rise in day temperatures across Odisha over the next few days, alongside increasing thunderstorm activity towards the end of the week.

According to the evening bulletin issued at 1900 hrs IST, maximum temperatures across the state hovered between 31°C and 36.6°C, with Paralakhemundi recording the highest temperature at 36.6°C. Bhubaneswar recorded 35.8°C, while several western districts including Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur also experienced temperatures above 35°C.

No significant rainfall was recorded across most parts of the state, except Paralakhemundi, which received 16 mm of rain between 0830 hrs and 1730 hrs.

The IMD said an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas at about 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system is influencing weather conditions over southern and coastal parts of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places over districts such as Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Balasore and Mayurbhanj during the next two days, while the rest of the state is expected to remain largely dry.

From March 25 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to shift towards coastal districts including Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.

The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for March 27 and 28, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in several districts.

Districts likely to be affected include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda and Bargarh, among others.

Day temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 2–4°C over the next 4–5 days across Odisha, with no significant change thereafter.

For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 35°C and 21°C respectively.

No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days.

The IMD indicated no large change in weather conditions beyond March 30, suggesting a continuation of the prevailing pattern of rising temperatures interspersed with localized thunderstorm activity.
