Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, an inmate of a de-addiction center on the outskirts of the city under Dhauli police limits was allegedly beaten to death.
The deceased has been identified as Kalu Nayak of Jharana Sahi. Kalu was admitted to the de-addiction center three months back.
Kalu’s family members have alleged that he was thrashed to death at the de-addiction center. They have lodged a complaint at the Dhauli police station in this connection.
The Kalu’s wife has alleged that she received a call from the de-addiction center at around 4.00 AM that her husband’s heart had stopped beating and she was asked to come to the hospital.
She said that on reaching Capital Hospital she came to know that her husband had died. She said that they had paid Rs 20,000 to the de-addiction center for her husband’s treatment. They had demanded another Rs 20,000, she added.
She alleged that her husband’s body had injury marks on the back of having been beaten up with a pipe and a bleeding injury on his feet.
“After post-mortem of the body, we shall be able to ascertain the real cause of death. Our investigation will be based on that. The scientific team has already visited and done the needful. We have already questioned other inmates of the center. We will act as per prima facie findings,” informed Girija Chakraborty, ACP.
Police have seized CCTV footage of the de-addiction center and are questioning its owner.
