Dead Body Awaits Funeral As Village Boycotts Family Over COVID-19 Scare

Balasore: The Centre on May 1 announced a third-leg of nationwide lockdown which is aimed at phasing out the restrictions to ensure no sudden outbreak of novel coronavirus. In fresh guidelines, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that a maximum of 20 people can participate in the funeral or last rites of a deceased.

As corona scare pushed people inside their homes, a dead body in Bhadrak village awaits final goodbye it deserves. The residents of Khatanagar village of Jamujhadi panchayat under Simulia police limits took a toss at humanity as they completely avoided the grieving family.

The deceased, Sridhar Dalei, had returned from Kolkata on April 30. He was unwell upon his return and was taken for treatment to Balasore DHH by an ambulance. He breathed his last during the treatment and his mortal remains were sent back home.

Even if Dalei did not pass away due to COVID-19, the villagers were scared of contracting the disease and completely avoided his funeral and his mourning family.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two minor kids. Without participation of villagers, the body awaits its final journey.
