Dead Infant, Ladies Purse & Mobile Phone Found From Drunk Old Man’s Bag

**Balasore**: An old man was caught red-handed by some villagers as he was carrying the dead body of a newly born baby boy in a sack near the railway crossing at Uparapatna village and Bahanga block in Balasore district on Saturday afternoon.

The 60-year-old man named Biju Nayak was in an inebriated state, and was unable to explain the presence of the dead child with him.

Moreover, a ladies purse and a mobile phone was also recovered from him. The villagers thrashed him but still he was not in a condition to speak out anything as he was totally in a drunken state.

The villagers informed the Khantabada police who have detained him. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Soro.

The police have started its investigation. The identity of the child is yet to be ascertained.

Notably, Biju Nayak is a small time thief and used to steal at times in the village. According to the villagers, it is alleged that the old man found the body of the infant with the purse and mobile on the roadside. He picked all the three of them and put them in the sack as he was fully drunk at that time. He also is clueless about the identity of the child, according to sources.

The police are investigating the case. The mobile phone is being examined and the ladies purse is also under scrutiny.

“The man is mentally unstable. According to him, he got the bag on a roadside. Thinking that something valuable is present inside, he just picked it up without checking it. An UD case has been registered. ASI Jay Nayak is the investigating officer,” said the Officer In Charge, Khantabada PS.
