Bhubaneswar: The extended deadline for the re-enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, in Odisha is to end today however people are still queuing at the RTO offices for learners’ licence (LL), driving licence (DL) and other vehicle-related documents.

While some commuters who had visited Bhubaneswar RTO-1 sought an extension of one more month for implementation of the revised Motor Vehicles Act, some opined that even an extension of one year is not sufficient to comply with the guidelines.

Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak from Saheed Nagar agreed that it is because of his negligence that he is forced to visit the RTO office for driving licence. He said he will be travelling by Mo Bus or auto-rickshaw till he gets the licence but even sought an extension of one month.

Sabita Rani of Banki, who had applied for driving licence but had missed one test and visited the RTO office for the second time, said she will have to wait to drive her vehicle till she gets the licence as per Government guidelines.

Chittaranjan Mohapatra from Khandagiri area claimed that he is well aware of the Motor Vehicles Act but has been making the rounds of the RTO office for the past two months to get his driving licence. He even sought a one month extension in the deadline.

A college student Swetapadma Das, however, opined that the Government has given enough time to comply with the guidelines. There should be no more extension as people will not take it seriously and now the guidelines should be implemented strictly.

Similarly, another city denizen Rabinarayan Sathpathy said that he had waited for his turn in long queues for around four to five days, but had to leave the RTO office to attend urgent works. However, he agreed to comply with the traffic rules and even pay fine if ever he violates it.
