Bhubaneswar: One more person who had sustained burns in the Chandan Yatra firecracker explosion incident in Puri succumbed to his burns while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the fire tragedy reached 15, according to an official press release issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha on Wednesday.
Going by the release, the Puri district collector has taken steps for payment of Rs.4 lakh each towards ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of deceased persons. Presently, 12 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
The fire accident took place on May 29 during the firework display on the 21-day Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri.
In the tragic incident, about 30 people including some minors sustained serious burn injuries.
Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a high-level administrative probe into the firecracker explosion by Additional Chief Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu.
