Bhubaneswar: Keonjhar district administration has completed the installation of a Dedicated Oxygen Supply Unit at the Dedicated Covid Hospital in Ranki.
Reportedly, the district administration had decided to purchase a dedicated ‘Oxygen Generator Machine’ based on PSA technology (Pressure Swing Adsorption) through DMF Funds for overcoming the short supply of medical grade oxygen at the district during around October 2020.
The Oxygen Generator Machine was delivered in January 2021 to the district and the installation started in the last week of April 2021. Installation, quality check as well as connection with the 45 ICU beds completed by May 10, 2021.
The Oxygen Generator Machine can provide on an average 5 Jumbo Cylinders worth oxygen per hour i.e. approximately around 8.5 lakh litres of oxygen per day can be generated from ambient air.
Dedicated Covid Hospital, Ranki, had 14 beds ICU capacity during the first wave of COVID-19 in 2020 with 12 high-end ventilators. The ICU beds have been increased to about 45 beds with 26 ventilators in total.
The peak demand for 45 ICU beds is estimated to be around 290 Jumbo Cylinders per day, which shall be met by the dedicated Oxygen Generator Machine.
